There were some really good contest suggestions sent to me, but I'm going to keep them in mind for the future instead of using them now. At the moment, I'm just too psyched over this Africa trip. Seeing as the fate of the world is being decided in Africa, our contest honouring Halo 3 will be themed "Off to Africa!"

Your entries should contain some element of the African continent in them - the settng for example, maybe a crazy tribal design for the Master Chief's armour or perhaps a tale of the covenant/UNSC being shipped off to the battle in Africa. You've got a lot of freedom with this contest, so show me some creativity and make me proud!

You can submit more than one entry if you wish. Each entry will earn its respective entrant 10 points in our ranking system. The contest deadline is November 10th, 2007 and voting will be held during the 2 weeks following that date.

YAY! I'm home again! Africa was awesome!

Heh heh... so much for keeping the club going during my absence, though. My appologies for that we had some rather interesting difficulties regarding the internet connection I was supposed to have. Basically I was supposed to be allowed to use the internet at the hospital where I was working. Unfortunately, this hospital is built at the top of a plateau and rainy season had just begun with a vengeance. The day before I arrived, lightning struck the satelite dish we were using to harness the net. This caused a cascade reaction and all the hospital's internet technology was fried. It all needed to be sent back to Canada for repair. I tried finding some other internet options, but the cost of even basic service in Angola was so rediculous I was looking at spending about 50 cents a minute. That means about $10 just to glance at my email... Ah life in a third world country - we were lucky enough to get 3 hours of power in a day as it was anyways.

You know, I'm someone who's been camping for many years - I'm used to roughing things a bit, but let me tell you, this trip really made me realize how much here at home I take for granted. Even a disgustingly messy staff house in Killarney seemed like nothing. I saw the inside of about four airports on this trip and even had the oppourtunity to land in a village that had little more than a field of grass with grazing cattle on it as a landing strip. When I arrived at the airport in Toronto this morning, I almost had to do a double take as I stepped off the plane. It had been so long since I'd seen anything so clean and well kept. I feel so incredibly lucky to call Canada my home.

Anyways, sentimentality aside - the contest is off to a poor start. At the moment WE DON'T HAVE A SINGLE ENTRY! SO GET TO WORK AND MAKE ME SOME MASTERPIECES! Remember, you've got until November 10th. That's a little over a week - so get cracking!

Well soliders, tomorrow night - I'm being shipped off to Africa to engage the enemy at their attack site. I'll be there for approximately 3 weeks. However, I will not be shutting down the club during that time because, from what I understand, I will have internet access while I'm there.
